Exclusive Rights Player

1. What is an Exclusive Rights Player?

A: A player with fewer than three years of experience whose contract has expired is subject to an “Exclusive Rights” tender. Teams may control the rights to such players by tendering them with a contract of at least the minimum active/inactive salary applicable to the player based on the player’s years of experience. This offer must be made before the first day of the first League Year following the expiration of the player’s previous contract. If a team does not make the Exclusive Rights tender or later withdraws it, the player becomes an unrestricted free agent and may sign a contract with any team without any restrictions.
